That's the Great Basin Desert , the most northerly of the four and the coldest. Ecologically, therefore, its also the least interesting, but scenically it can be very striking. The other three deserts are all 'hot' deserts.
Opinions differ as to whether or the Great Basin extends into Arizona. Some say it doesn't, but others argue that the 'Painted Desert' of northern Arizona is part of the Great Basin Desert.
